As most of you know, HSPC is involved in a litigation with the city, opposing creation of the Southwest Redevelopment Zone. The purpose of the litigation is to prevent the city from implementing an unacceptable redevelopment plan, and to gain the necessary leverage to make sure that our input will be reflected in whatever choices are ultimately made.
Our case is moving along on a fast track. On January 15, the Judge will hear our motion requesting that the redevelopment designation be thrown out, due to the failure of the Planning Board to swear in witnesses (as it is required to do by law). If the Judge rules against us, a trial will be held February 9th on our contention that the redevelopment study underlying the designation failed to meet the required legal standards.
We will win or lose in court by the end of February. We’ll keep you posted on developments as they happen.
Whatever happens in court, creating a balanced neighborhood in the southwest including a real park will require all of us to make our voices heard. We all need to work together to Get Out The Vote in the May City Council election. If we can’t make ourselves heard on election day, then we won’t be heard when the decisions about our neighborhood are made either.
